A few words and comments on how I got to where I am today.

Usually when I talk careers with people, they say to me, "You must enjoy what you do. That's cool stuff!" My usual reply is, "How many people do you know who work a day job, come home, and can do the same thing for fun?"

That's just how I view my career. Fun. I have a passion for what I do.

The early 1990s was when I was first introduced to the digital media field. After playing around for a few years in architectural design, right out of high school, I decided I needed a change. Something more exciting and "colorful" if you will. After throwing in the towel with the blueprints, I started taking desktop publishing classes in college. It was there where I developed my layout and typography skills, putting together things like brochures, magazine ads, cd covers, and more.

I enjoyed desktop publishing a lot, as it was here that I was introduced to industry standard applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator and others. But I wanted something more. So I started to venture into web design, digital video, and other areas of interactive media. This is what really made my eyes widen. After a year or so of learning about interactive and motion graphics, I realized I had found the career that was made for me.

In the late 1990s I took my skills and interests into the work force and began to work as a freelancer for a staffing agency. I gained a lot of my experience working for different companies on various projects and assignments. My experiences ranged from building websites, story boards for television commercials, interactive kiosks for trade show exhibits, and more. I picked up a lot of skills and knowledge in a lot of areas during this time, and it gave me a well-rounded sense of how a lot of things are done in the field. After being involved in so many exciting and interesting things during this time, I found it was the web that I really enjoyed. Eventually, it evolved into my main profession.

Enough rambling. Thanks for taking the time to read!
